What is the Paradigm Award?
The Paradigm Award is a national labor efficiency quality award created to recognize adult acute hospitals who have worked diligently to optimize the results and expense of their labor through the development of new competencies.
-
Why was the Paradigm Award created?
The Paradigm Award was created by multiple organizations who desired to celebrate and propagate the science of efficient labor management with/to healthcare. -
Who can apply for the Paradigm Award?
Any adult acute hospital with an ADC above 75 can begin the application process by signing up for and completing the self assessment. Only organizations who illustrate significant competency in efficiently managing labor are invited to formally apply for the award. -
What is the application cost?
There is no cost associated with any part of the Paradigm Award, rather the Paradigm Award committee awards $10,000 to organizations who win. -
What is the application process?
Organizations interested in pursuing the Paradigm award must first complete the self assessment. Those who achieve qualifying scores will be contacted directly and will be invited to apply. Those who fail to achieve a qualifying score from the self assessment will be sent a report detailing areas of possible deficiency along with the results of their self assessment and a gap analysis between their currently reported level and the level necessary to be invited to formally apply for the award. -
What do we get if we apply?
Whether an organization qualifies to formally apply (by invitation only upon receiving a qualifying score on the self assessment) or does not qualify to apply, they will be sent a report that details:
- areas of possible deficiency
- results of their self assessment
- a gap analysis between their currently reported level and the level necessary to be invited to formally apply for the award
- basic recommendations for remediation of any areas of identified concern/deficiency
-
What do we get if we win?
$10,000, a national press release, banners, a statue, plaques and the envy of competitors and their staff. -
How hard is it to win the award?
Statistically, very few organizations are able to complete the application process and proceed directly to the award presentation. Most organizations will need to spend between 3 and 6 months to address labor opportunities the application process identifies before they are able to achieve the level of performance required by the award. Changing long standing practices is emotionally difficult, and although many organizations are capable of achieving the award, few are willing to make the necessary changes to do so. Assessing the organizations willingness to explore new paradigms of labor efficiency is key before deciding to accept the invitation to apply. -
What is the award period?
Organizations who achieve the award are designated "Paradigm Leaders" and "Paradigm Award Facilities" for a period of 3 years from the conferring of the award. Organizations who receive a qualifying score on the self assessment are granted 12 months from the time they are formally invited to apply to complete and submit their application. -
